Bio

My initial impression of architects came from reading After the Planners, a 1973 book by Robert N. Goodman, while I was in high school. Goodman called for architects to become advocates for the displaced rather than elites or tools of the wealthy class. While it wasn't a direct path from college to my practice,  I have spent much of the past 28 years in my practice, RM Sovich Architecture,  devoted to design for the frail elderly and disenfranchised communities. I am honored to be a board member of the Neighborhood Design Center in Baltimore, an organization that, since 1968, has been doing the work described in Goodman's book.

I am also co-editor with Craig Purcell, AIA, of T3XTURE, a journal exploring the role of ornament, texture, and pattern--elements connecting  architecture to place that are missing from Modern architecture. T3XTURE includes contributions from architects, philosophers, ornamenters, historians, scientists, and artists around the world. Issues #1-5 are available on Amazon.com. Issue #6 is forthcoming in the fall of 2023.

I am a proud husband, grandfather, and father of five.
