Webinar: Current and Future State of Nurse Call Technology

Webinar Description
The webinar will address design issues related to clinical staff communication and patient bedside control technology.  Nurse call devices are now EMR interfaces and lighting & temperature, window shade and TV controls.  Tracking of patient wandering, child abduction protection, pharmaceutical dispensing all need to report to the nurse station.  Done badly Nurse Call causes a lot of grief to everyone involved.  This webinar provides designers with direction on how to get it right.

Participants will be able to:

1.    Describe the purpose of nurse call systems as they are used today.
2.    Identify critical elements in nurse call systems that have potential to be problematic.
3.    Lead a discussion on processes to determine how the nurse call system will be used.
4.    Discuss future opportunities for use of nurse call technology in increasing patient safety, comfort and satisfaction.

Gary Buss, Associate Vice President, RTKL Associates Healthcare Technologies
With 30+ years of healthcare technology experience, Gary is the technical lead for RTKL’s technology design group for hospital and related industries.He joined RTKL in 2004 to start the healthcare technologies design efforts.  He started in this industry as an installer of low voltage systems working his way to service and sales.  He worked for Dukane Corporation as a healthcare specialist, troubleshooter, and regional manager before coming to RTKL.  As a volunteer paramedic he gained a clinical understanding of hospitals, not just technical knowledge.

Report AIA Continuing Education
Attendees will earn 1.5 LU/HSW. A link to a survey will be provided both at the end of the webinar and in a follow-up email sent one hour after the end of the webinar. All attendees at each site submit one form:  1) page one: webinar survey and 2) page two: CES report form. The survey must be completed within 24 hours of the webinar. AIA members and IDP record holders will have their credit recorded within 48 hours of the webinar. All attendees will be prompted to download a certificate of completion at the end of the survey.
