In winter 2014, ASLA polled residential landscape architects about the estimated popularity of various design elements for 2014.  During this presentation, Jennifer will introduce the most popular design features sought out by homeowners and will identify how architects can incorporate such features into their projects.

Learning Objectives

  1. Participants will be introduced to various outdoor kitchens, systems and styles and learn how to provide necessary infrastructure for outdoor kitchens in new and existing homes.
  2. Participants will be exposed to various stormwater management devices for residential homes, including drywells, underwater storage tanks, rain barrels and rain gardens and learn how to best assess a site for the right stormwater management system.
  3. Participants will understand how to best accommodate a site for food gardens, fire pits, water features and other oft-requested landscape features.
  4. Participants will be introduced to various eco-friendly practices in landscape design, including permeable paving, drip irrigation and LED lighting - and understand when their use is appropriate.

Report AIA Continuing Education

Attendees will earn 1.0 LUs. A link to a survey will be provided both at the end of the webinar and in a follow-up email sent one hour after the end of the webinar. All attendees at each site submit one form: 1) page one: webinar survey and 2) page two: CES report form. The survey must be completed in order to receive credit. AIA members and IDP record holders will have their credit recorded within 5-7 business days of the webinar. All attendees will be prompted to download a certificate of completion at the end of the survey.

Speakers

Jennifer G. Horn is a licensed landscape architect in New York, Virginia and Maryland and co-chair of the ASLA's Residential Professional Practice Network.  She has a bachelor's degree in Horticulture from Virginia Tech University and a master's degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Georgia.  Her firm, Jennifer Horn Landscape Architecture, specializes in high-end landscape design services for residences in the DC-Maryland-Virginia region, ranging in size from hundreds of square feet to dozens of acres.

In 2014, Home & Design magazine ranked Jennifer in the top 100 designers for the DC metro area and she has been featured in Luxe Magazine, Hearth & Home and Northern Virginia magazine.
