Sessions of Interest

Learning-by-Doing: New Paradigms in Educational Design and Programming

5/15/2015 | 3:30 PM - 4:30 PM | 1.00 LU/HSW | FR318

The “flipped curriculum” is shaping educational design/programming as technology and new methodologies of instruction are inverting traditional teaching processes. The "sage on stage” lecture style teaching is no longer the norm. Instead, collaborative, “hands on” learning-by-doing is becoming the standard by which 21st Century students are educated. Cross fertilization of curriculum is rapidly gaining momentum and is challenging the traditional siloed method of subject-by-subject teaching. This session will examine the role that these new strategies and technologies play in the “schools of the future,” and how they are manifested in K-12 and higher education learning environments. What types of spaces are needed to support these new paradigms in education? How can teaching environments support and facilitate a more active style of instruction?
