2014 National Architecture Conference – Making

Making: 2014 is a celebration of ideas, examining different approaches to achieving architectural excellence that challenge cultural, economic, social and political environments. We are intrigued by the role of the architect as the maker of environments and connections that extend the bounds of traditional practice.
Speakers will be drawn together in the most isolated capital city in the world, Perth, Western Australia, from our continental neighbours. We will reveal architectural excellence grown in different economic, cultural and political contexts, looking to Asia, Africa and South America to discover alternatives to the European models.

The event program is being developed closely with the main seminar program, to make for a spectacular festival of architecture. Conference delegates will be given the opportunity to discover the richness of Perth’s architecture, culture, places and spaces through a broad range of events that promise to be unique and engaging.
By foot, bike, car or coach, tours are being developed for delegates to explore Perth’s exemplary architecture and gain access to local architectural practices and studios. A number of exciting exhibitions will run for the duration of the conference, drawing attention to local practices and projects as well as select international work; and a range of cross-artform events are also in development.
