One of the key features of ARCASIA is the ARCASIA Forum which is a platform for the on-going discussion of current architectural ideas pertinent to the region. This is a gathering of prominent architects and thinkers intended to serve as an Asian 'catapult of minds' on matters concerning architectural and environment in the Asian context.

The theme for ARCASIA Forum 18 in 2015 is Future of the Past.

These are images that many people might think of when talking about old cities. Amidst Asia’s delirious growth in the past decade, many of those old cites have survived through rises and falls in different conditions. Some were well preserved

and maintained while some were ruined by both their residences and over tourism. Some are being too developed while some are forgotten. Some are still alive like the era when they were built while some are injected by new pseudo lives and become Potemkin towns. If "TODAY" is the future of the past, as it is the "past" of the future, it is important that “NOW” we help each others to understand the present situation of those oldness to create new sustainability those valuable cities.

Architects, designers and urban planners are important bunch of those who shape the future of old cities that have survived the past. The term, "to conserve", is just too broad and one sided as an action towards the oldness since Asia cities have been undergoing quick and intensified change. We may have to discuss further the processes that are more specific and vigorous like "to revive" or "to rebuild" etc., those that relate the past to the speed of the development today. Do not forget that the cities that we are living, old and new, are getting older everyday and could become the past as well. So to look back at these old cities could seriously create a good vision for the development of the "NOW" as well.
