With the shift from volume-based to value-based healthcare, hospitals are finding that their revenue is impacted by the way patients score their experience at the hospital. Design of the environment can not only enhance the patient experience; it can have a discernable effect on the institution’s bottom line.

John Kreidich, AIA, CHC, LEED AP BD+C

For nearly half of his forty-plus year career, John Kreidich managed planning, design, and construction of healthcare facilities totaling over a half billion dollars (2015$), including four years as AVP of medical facility operations.  Currently the go-to resource for all hospital-related safety, infection control, sustainable building, and material/equipment procurement matters at McCarthy Building Company’s Central Healthcare Unit, Kreidich joined McCarthy in 2000 to direct operations of a continuous work program specializing in high-risk acute-care renovations.

Joan Suchomel, AIA, ACHA, EDAC

Joan Suchomel is a principal at Eckenhoff Saunders Architects in Chicago, where she brings a wealth of experience and insight to the firm’s healthcare planning and design practice. A former director in Skidmore, Owings & Merrill’s (SOM’s) Chicago office and Senior Medical Planner for SOM’s Health + Science practice, healthcare architecture has been the primary focus of Joan’s career for three decades. She is also the current President of the AIA Academy of Architecture for Health.


Deborah Hayes

Deborah Hayes is Chief Operating Officer of The Christ Hospital Health Network. She has more than 25 years of progressive management and leadership roles, is board certified as a nursing executive and is a tireless advocate for advancing safety and quality in healthcare. She led the hospital’s efforts to implement a fully electronic EMR in 2010, achieved Magnet designation in 2010 & 2015. Under her leadership the hospital continues to be one of US News and World Report’s Top 50 Hospitals as well a Truven Top 100 hospital. The organization has received the Press Ganey Beacon Award for service excellence and continues to be the Most Preferred Provider in the Greater Cincinnati area for the past twenty years. She oversees all hospital operations including the $280M transformation of its campus infrastructure and the growth of its network of ambulatory outpatient centers.
