    The AIA International Practice Committee (IPC) is now soliciting applications for 2015 appointments to the committee's Advisory Group (AG). All IPC members are encouraged to consider this opportunity to serve in a leadership capacity.


    The International Practice Committee

    The International Practice Committee is a group of architects and allied professionals involved and/or interested in international practice.  The International Practice Committee Advisory Group explores and monitors global practice and policy issues to be addressed by the President, the Executive Committee, and the Board of Directors. The committee focuses on facilitating members' practice in global markets, identifying and developing practice resources, and providing an active network of architects engaged in international practice.  The committee serves all members by engaging in the global architecture community to advance the highest international standards of education, training, and practice.

    AG Structure:

    • 7 core voting members:
      1. Chair - 2nd year of 3 year term
      2. Vice Chair - 1st year of 3 year term (ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS for 2015-2017)
      3. Past Chair - 3rd year of 3 year term
      4. Member at Large - 2 year term (ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS for 2015-2016)
      5. Trade Issues Member - 2 year term
      6. Education/Programs Member - 2 year term
      7. Communications/Resources Member - 2 year term (ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS for 2015-2016)
    • 1 ex-officio member: UIA Professional Practice Commission (PPC) Co-Director 

    New members are appointed to the IPC-AG each year, to replace members completing their service. This appointment is to commence in January 2015.  Appointments are renewed annually by the president of the AIA.  AG members are expected to participate in monthly conference calls, IPC-sponsored conferences, symposia, and workshops, and the AIA National Convention.  


    Open Positions:

    Vice Chair

    The successful candidate for the Vice Chair position will be appointed to a 3-year term.  He or she will serve as Chair in his or her second year and as Past Chair in his or her third year on the committee.  The Vice Chair will be responsible for supporting the Chair in coordinating and leading committee activities, including conference calls, programmatic planning, outreach, and serving in an advisory role to AIA members, leadership and staff.  

    Member at Large

    The successful candidate for the Member At Large position will be appointed to a 2-year term.  He or she will have broad knowledge of and interest in international practice issues.  He or she will be responsible for supporting for the committee in its regular activities and advising on international practice topics, but will be flexible to allow this position to bring to the group or take the lead on new areas of interest to the committee.

    Communications/Resources Member

    The successful candidate for the Communications/Resources Member position will be appointed to a 2-year term.  He or she will be the AG's point person for coordinating member communications.  He or she will also be responsible for reviewing and coordinating updates to existing resources, identifying new resources, and working with other AG members to develop and adapt content for the International Practice Committee KnowledgeNet site.


    Selection

    The current AG members review all applications and make a recommendation for appointment by the AIA president.

    Criteria:
    The Advisory Group utilizes the following criteria in making their evaluations. The individual:

    • is an AIA member in good standing;
    • is committed to a two- or three ‐year term of service (depending on position);
    • has a record of involvement with the committee's past events, publications, or special projects;
    • has an established reputation of following through on volunteer commitments;
    • has an active international practice or other related international professional activity;
    • will contribute to the diversity of the Advisory Group in terms of firm size, geography, gender, ethnicity and expertise;
    • An active involvement with a component's international committee or program is an added advantage.

A brief (no longer than one page) statement of interest in joining the IC-AG, including the position you are applying for (Vice Chair, Member at Large, or Communications/Resources Member), a summary of past committee participation, and a description of any special goals if selected to the AG
