    A PARADIGM SHIFT:

Vitruvius laid out roads as ventilation conduits, exhausting contaminated air from roadside development, and bringing fresh air in: The ancient version of the oxygen tent. He capitalized on wind direction, topography and seasonal shifts in direction to block cold air in winter and accept it in summer: His version of air conditioning; public health and safety practice of the day. Today's technology has reversed all of that. Today, we pollute and kill while pleading in vain for attention to control these misguided missiles on the road. But that industrial age paradigm has run its course.

Today "the nut that holds the steering wheel" has been seduced by hand held devices and educated by crash videos. But is found to have a brain part that has been ignored and frustrated by roadway camouflage. The subconscious, it happens, controls muscular reaction before thought can be engaged. (Think hitting a 90 mph baseball unseen at 14 feet and curving). The future of roadway missile guidance is not in trillions of sensors on 17 million cars annually x 15 years in development.

It lies in cognitive psychology, neurology, "video"graphic analysis and design of the R.O.W. Plus eye tracking for kinetic art and brain studies to cope with polluted brains. All available today..(Think how advertising neurologists increase sales by by 75-90% with images and lab tests.) See the Academy for Neuroscience For Architecture - Salk Institute, and architects who take HSW seriously, Then translate that to the road. Vitruvius had it right, as did Eberhard, Corbu and Neutra. Plus Monderman in the Netherlands. No other profession embraces these needed disciplines.

Is reducing 13 x the WTC- 9/11 deaths every year motivation enough? My initial sample reduced 9 collisions in 30 days to 2 per year.  Every Architecture and Landscape Architecture student in this country needs this sketch problem. Now!
Find a deadly collision site, determine where the eyes went, and redesign the collision course as seen through the windshield. See www.eye-cue-driver.org.
