Who we are

The Construction Contract Administration Knowledge Community (CCA) has been established to help our members better understand the issues, actions and resultant impact of the decisions required in this often neglected part of Project Delivery. It is our goal to provide clear answers to issues of concern to the Institute’s membership and share case studies and best practices. We further hope to provide guidance and direction in developing guidelines for new and evolving approaches to Project Delivery as well as guidance in the continuing education of our emerging young professionals.

2015 - Stay Out of Debtor’s Prison: How to Handle Legal & Contractual Issues with the ADA & FHA

This webinar is part of a series sponsored by the Construction Contracts Administration community on AIA KnowledgeNet. Earn 1.0 AIA LUs | Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at 1:00-2:00pm EDT Find out what time the webinar is in my time zone » Was the decline in the number of public bath houses due to the proliferation of indoor plumbing? A growing number of historians believe it is the case of Bertram Ireland. In 1927, architect Bertram Ireland drew simple plans for a bath house in Atlantic City. On August 3, 1940, Sophie Sonstein was killed when a partial collapse of the bath house occurred. Mr. Bertram was prosecuted for manslaughter “due to negligence and for creating a public nuisance by building an unsafe structure contrary to the code.” Since 1940, it is seldom that architects are asked to design bath houses. If bath houses were still common, it would be required that they comply with the ADA, FHA and other codes and regulations. Failure of a final design to comply with the ADA and FHA can result in federal or state prosecution, as well as private civil actions. Contractual indemnity, warranty, and standard of care provisions can impact a designer’s potential liability. This presentation will focus on contractual provisions impacting a designer’s liability for violations of the ADA and FHA. Learn more and register for this webinar. Attendees can earn 1 AIA HSW LUs. On this page, you may download a PDF of the presentation, as well as a 2-page handout of contract language. Visit this page after the webinar to download a copy of the Q&A.
