AAH1603: Research to Practice: Lighting for Improved Environment of Care

09-07-2016 03:14 PM

This webinar is sponsored by the Academy of Architecture for Health (AAH) on October 11, 2016 from 2:00-3:00pm ET. Earn 1.0 AIA LU/HSW. This session challenges our industry to design lighting for an improved environment of care. The presenters will showcase leading research in lighting and health, review the soon-to-be-published Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) Recommended Practice in Lighting for Hospitals and Healthcare Facilities, RP-29, and outline a bridge to incorporating research, technology, and standards to improve the patient experience from the owner’s perspective. Learning objectives: After participating in this webinar attendees will: 1. Recognize the impact of the spectrum and intensity of light resources on occupant wellness through explaining the basics of the visual and non-visual biological systems. 2. Comprehend how these elements can be incorporated into design of the physical environment to improve sleep quality, improve visibility and reduce falls in healthcare settings. 3. Employ concepts that suggest design solutions for mimicking natural rhythms of light spectrum and intensity. 4. Demonstrate how new technology can be applied to design lighting solutions to improve occupant wellness. The PowerPoint and a PDF version of the presentation are below for your viewing, along with the final Q&A document.
