INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION - SUNCHEON ART PLATFORM IN SOUTH KOREA

PARIS – 10 March– The city of Suncheon –South Korea, announces a single stage ideas competition with the aim of identifying the best proposal for the Suncheon Art Platform in the city centre. It is supported by the International Union of Architects and the Korean Institute of Architects and will be conducted according to the UNESCO/UIA Regulations for international competitions. Reassembling historic assets scattered throughout the city in tandem with the ongoing Urban Regeneration Projects, the Suncheon Art Platform project responds to the city’s demand to cultivate its cultural heritage and to have a tourist hub with an iconic architectural landmark. PROGRAMME On a 10 514 M2 site, the Art Platform includes an art centre, a visitor centre, and a new Yeonja-ru (the ancient gazebo of the city). As the heart of the urban regeneration project, it is envisioned that this design competition will lead to a built outcome where all of the spaces have been designed in unison, where buildings and public space are combined in a creative and harmonious way in connection with the surrounding environment. PARTICIPATION Participation is open to architects allowed to practice in their home countries; to students majoring in architecture or related fields as a team led by an architecture professor or a practicing architect. INTERNATIONAL JURY Francisco Sanin (Colombia), Director of the Syracuse Architecture London program ; Keith VanDerSys (USA), Founding partner of PEG office of landscape + architecture ; Hyunjun Mihn (South Korea) ; Principal at mp_Art Architects, Associate professor at Hongik University Colleges of Architecture ; Junsung Kim (South Korea), Design principal at Architecture Studio hANd, Professor at Graduate School of Architecture, Konkuk University. Ueli Brauen (Switzerland) will be the UIA representative, and Pei Ing Tan (Malaysia) UIA representative -alternate member.
