The water consumption is not in the news recently, but I did some mathematics:

The US has a population of around 285 million, 49,1 % male.

    Males empty they bladder about 10 times in 24 hrs.  Flushing the toilet, which is legal, uses 1.6 gal. of water:  285 x .491 x 1.6 = 223.891 M gals/a day – using an urinal 285x .491 x 0.5 = 69.967 M gals/day.

This means 153.924 M gals/day keep for fight drought.

Interesting, I did install an urinal at my home studio.

What are the comments for discussion?.

That is a lot of flushing but don't forget, men seldom wash there hands unless there wife is around.  This saves a lot of water.

A few corrections and thoughts, math and otherwise:

    Current US population estimate: 327M
    Current US male estimate: 161M

You missed the 10 as in 10 flushes/day.

Actual number is 2,576 million gallons/day, 10 times your figure.

    BUT, I don't pee 10/day (once every 2 hours!), more like 5/day.

And more to the point, what is the total water usage in the US and what % is this - that is, where does it make sense to work on saving water?

Total water usage (2010): 355,000 million gallons per day

So the guys peeing are accounting for 0.7% of the total.

    Waterless urinals are well-developed…

Philip, thanks, you pee very seldom, but maybe you are young.

Age brings problems.   What about settle for 70%, become only 1,803.2 in 365 days = 658.168 billons' of gallons of water, equal to 24.376 million of CY of water.

Will be interesting to find how many acres of agriculture can be keep, how many workers can be employ to do the job, and how many people can be satisfy they hunger.

    Questions....

Has anyone done a cost/benefit analysis on adding urinals to new residential construction?

    Interesting.

How about the scenario where waterless urinal is used?
