Bio

Ralph C. Bicknese, AIA, LEED AP is a nationally recognized practitioner of sustainable design and is a principal and co-founder of Hellmuth + Bicknese Architects. H+B provides architectural, planning and consulting services centered on sustainable solutions that enhance and enrich life.

Mr. Bicknese has been involved in dozens of projects seeking certification under the LEED green building rating system including the first LEED-CS Gold building and first LEED-CI building in Nevada; the Torre Aristos office building and hotel in El Salvador; and the Living Learning Center for Washington University in St. Louis which is among the first two buildings in the world (simultaneously) certified under the stringent Living Building Challenge.

Mr. Bicknese is an architect, a member of the AIA, and a LEED AP with BD+C specialty. He served five years on the board of the U.S. Green Building Council - St. Louis where he held several positions including Chair, currently serves as the chapter’s Green School Advocate, served on two Greenbuild Session Selection Committees, the Greenbuild 2005 Program Committee, serves on the USGBC Haiti Advisory Panel, initiated, helped organize and facilitate the Katrina Charrettes at Greenbuild 2005, was a contributor to The New Orleans Principles, and was involved in follow up outreach. Mr. Bicknese advocates for green building legislation to local, state and federal legislators; is a member of the UM-St. Louis Environmental Committee; St. Louis Learns and Leads; is an Executive Committee Member of The Institute for Market Transformation to Sustainability, Vice Chairman of the SMaRT Sustainable Building Product Standards Committee; served on Missouri Governor Jay Nixon’s Home Building and Residential Energy Efficiency Panel and helped initiate the Green School Caucus in the Missouri legislature.
