HRC Luncheon at 2016 AIA Convention

We had a wonderful turnout for our annual HRC Luncheon at the AIA convention in Philadelphia with over 110 attendees! Thank you everyone for your attendance and support of HRC. I would like to give a special thank you for all of our sponsors! Without your continued support we would not be able to sponsor or many programs, awards and events. During the lunch Karl Stumpf, AIA gave an overview of the activities of the HRC in 2016 (see attached link to PowerPoint presentation). Our guest speaker this year was Bob Jaeger, President of Partners for Sacred Places. Bob shared with the attendees the mission and strategy of his organization to protect and reinvigorate sacred places in our communities. Also, the HRC recognized John A. Burns, FAIA with a "Proclamation of Recognition" for his contributions to historic preservation over his 44 year career with the National Park Service and his role in the documentation and preservations of our historic resources.

Historic preservation colleagues met to network and tour historic buildings that have been converted to hotels, restaurants and lounges during the 2016 AIA Convention in Philadelphia as guests of the AIA Philadelphia Historic Preservation Committee. We had a great time overall in Philly, meeting old friends, networking with new, seeing iconic historical buildings, experiencing the beginnings of our nation and taking in the Philadelphia experience, hard to explain...a very emotional response beyond the usual "tourist" experience. It was too much to see in too short a time, even though we got there three days before the convention. Definitely on our return list. The event was sponsored by AIA Philadelphia Historic Preservation Committee, Evergreene Architectural Arts, Pella|EFCO Commercial Solutions, and St. Louis Antique Lighting Company.)
