Kelly Martinez is a recent graduate from the Universtiy of Minnesota, College of Design with a Master of Architecture. Her thesis was titled Integrated Center of Arts and Therapy for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). Her proposed thesis project was similar in scope to the AIA CAE Design Awards in that it compared and contrasted by looking at spatial design, planning and user satisfaction. Every place and space we experience offers an opportunity to learn. Accepted educational research first theorized by social scientist author, Howard Gardner, shows that learners have eight multiple intelligences; visual, logical, intrapersonal, musical, body-kinesthetic, linguistic, interpersonal, and naturalistic. Every person has the capacity to learn in each of these strategies; however, some grow stronger than others due to our experiences, opportunities (or lack of opportunities) and environment.
