Summer Leadership Summit 2016 overview

By Isabella Rosse posted 10-25-2016 02:23 PM

The Summer Leadership Summit (SLS) 2016 was held in Chicago on July 22-24. This annual conference co-sponsored by AAH and the American College of Healthcare Architects (ACHA) is a small gathering of architects by invitation only. This year’s theme, “Getting There From Here,” was a comprehensive “deep dive” into the healthcare industry’s adaptation to revolutionary change. It explored the question: How are healthcare sectors responding to unprecedented demands for transformation from selling health services to creating accountable outcomes at attainable costs? There were around 200 people in attendance.

Speakers included:

  • George Morris, CIO of EMC Healthcare Solutions, and Linda MacCracken of Accenture, who discussed disruptive technologies
  • Susan Dentzer, CEO of The Network for Excellence in Health Innovation, who presented on the future healthcare without walls
  • Ken Kizer, UC Davis Professor, who reported on population health issues
  • Donald Warne, MD, Chair, Dept of Public Health and Professor, North Dakota State University, who spoke on underserved communities, especially American Indians
  • David Johnson, CEO, 4Sight Health, on why the healthcare industry is asset heavy and value light

Architecture + Health Educator’s Summit at SLS

On Thursday, July 21st, the architectural educators met to discuss issues ranging from certification importance and testing, Academy structure, international collaborations and research initiatives.  Professors were present from the following educational institutions: Clemson, Texas A & M, Texas Tech, Kansas, Ball State, BAC, Iowa State, Nebraska, SCAD, UI Urbana Champaign, and UT Arlington.

The Architecture + Health Educators summit has been part of SLS for many years. This year the meeting host was Stantec, formerly VOA, at their offices on Michigan Avenue.  Because of this location, SLS participants were able to attend parts of the meeting and were welcomed with an evening reception called “Meet the educators!” Many thanks to Doug King, AIA, ACHA for hosting this event.

On Friday evening, July 22nd, the AAF hosted the 4th annual fundraiser coinciding with the AAH / ACHA SLS conference. Over 125 of your colleagues met and enjoyed some wonderful food, drinks, fellowship and a terrific architectural space at the University Club. Thanks to the generosity of our major sponsor, Atreo Group, our gold, silver and bronze firm sponsors, plus those of you in attendance we were able to net over $35,000 that will be dedicated to fund research efforts.

Special thanks to the sponsors
