Date: Wednesday, October 12, 2016

Time: 2:00pm– 3:00pm EDT

In 2015, the International Code Council (ICC) approved a change to remove the provisions related to existing buildings (Chapter 34) in the International Building Code (IBC) and relocated all the requirements for repair, renovations and alterations into the International Existing Building Code (IEBC). The webinar will provide building owners with insight into how the IEBC is structured and the three options available for renovating an existing building (prescriptive, performance and work area methods). Unlike the IBC, the building owner and designer determine which of the three methods they will choose to follow on a given project.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Explain the differences between the Prescriptive, Work Area and Performance compliance methods.
  2. Clarify when additions, alterations & change of occupancies must comply with provisions for new construction.
  3. Discuss the guiding principles used to develop the existing building code requirements.
  4. Learn how to apply the existing building code to future building improvements.
