CS%20Committee%20twitter%20logo.pngWith the AIA now accepting nominations for appointments to its national committees, I want to encourage members to consider joining the AIA Codes and Standards Committee.

First formed in the 1950s to work closely with the three regional model code organizations and participate in the development of each code, the Committee has guided the AIA’s leading role in consolidating the three regional model code groups into the one we know today – the International Code Council (ICC).

Architects’ leadership in the development of construction codes and standards and other regulations directly affects the success and prosperity of AIA members, the profession, and our communities. Today’s C&S Committee is a premier example of members leading the way at the AIA, embracing the call to be advocates, and providing a credible and reliable voice to the public policy process. If you have ever wondered how the codes and standards we use every day are made, this is your opportunity to shape them.

There are three positions open on the Committee for one-year terms beginning in 2017 (with possible renewal for two subsequent one-year terms). I especially encourage interested Emerging Professional members to apply.

Nominations are due Friday, October 14 at 5:00pm EDT. Submit your nomination(s) here.

Log in to your AIA.org member account. Select “Apply” next to the national committee of interest. Upload your current resume, a letter of interest, and other (optional) supporting documents to submit the nomination. Please note that you will have to submit separate nominations for each national committee you wish to serve on.

If you or the colleague you nominated aren’t appointed to the Committee, we still encourage you get join and get involved in the AIA Codes Network.

Email the AIA Codes Advocacy Program at codes@aia.org or visit www.aia.org/codes for more information.
