Renovating Your Existing Building

By ANGLE Staff posted 09-13-2016 12:17 PM

The 2015 International Existing Building Code is available now for states and jurisdictions to adopt and apply to projects affecting existing buildings -- such as additions, renovations, and rehabilitation. In 2015, the International Code Council approved a change to remove the provisions related to existing buildings (Chapter 34) in the International Building Code (IBC), relocating all the requirements for repair, renovations and alterations to the International Existing Building Code (IEBC).

On behalf of the AIA and my firm Burnham Nationwide, I will be co-hosting a free webinar with Steve Orlowski of the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) International (register here).

Date: Thursday, September 15, 2016

Time: 2:00pm to 3:00pm Eastern

This webinar will provide property professionals with insight into how the IEBC is structured and the three options available for renovating an existing building (prescriptive, performance and work area methods). Unlike with the IBC, the building owner and designer now determine which of the three methods they will choose to follow on a given project.

During this webinar, you will:

  • Learn the differences between the prescriptive, work area and performance compliance methods.
  • Discover when additions, alterations and change of occupancies must comply with the provisions for new construction.
  • Learn the guiding principles used to develop the existing building code requirements.
