I met Mr. Thomas Vonier at the Lyon Conference, 18-22 April 13. He is such an inspiring man, his vision, his thinking ahead philosophy has impressed me. He is a man who has dedicated his entire carrier and life towards making the Architect profession receive the role it needs to have in our society.
Here is his statement:
CANDIDATE STATEMENT
"Influence. Focus. Innovate."

Components and members are the core of the AIA. We deliver the value and the promise of architecture. We are the Institute. AIA must deliver programs and resources that advance our interests and create impact.

Influence. AIA must help project us into new markets and attract new clients. Advocacy must concentrate on issues where architects have key stakes and contributions. We must mobilize public opinion, capitalize on communications, give form to new ideas and lead the discussion.

Focus. AIA must provide powerful tools to members and components. This means stimulating public demand for design and stressing the central value of architecture and design to society.

Innovate. Solid research and sustained practice are the cornerstones of leadership. AIA must establish a national research center, led by members, to place design and innovation at the forefront.
AIA is our only professional society. It commands our engagement and our allegiance. Regulators and educators must join us in meeting critical needs, streamlining the steps to licensing and enlarging our constituency.

Together we will set new direction for AIA, putting members, components and our core values at the center. Working together, we will focus assets to influence and innovate, elevating architecture and our profession.
