In early September, the AIA's
America's Design and Health Initiative shared the outcomes of the
7th World Congress on Design and Health, hosted jointly by the International Academy for Design and Health and the AIA Academy of Architecture for Health. Thoughts and outcomes were desseminated as a series of themes and questions. In a
recent article on their website, IADH continued to engage in these questions. They quoted Markku Alllison, AIA, who asked ask, "how, specifically, do we design communities and buildings to positively and measurably influence physical well-being, health and productivity?"
We've seen great success with the
Model Design Manual for Living Streets in LA, in the
Active Design Guidelines from NY, and in healthcare practice across the country, how can we quanitfy the healthfulness of a building or a community? Beyond that, how can we integrative technology and practice to elevate health to a key design objective in all projects?
