This message has been cross posted to the following Discussion Forums: Small Project Practitioners and Small Firm Round Table .

I've had an initial discussion with well-connected individual (non-architect) in my markets about possibility of him working to boost market awareness and business development. I'm experienced, but an introvert (with compensating skills) and think I could use the help. I'd still bear primary responsibility as "seller-doer". If we pursue it, it will be a new experience for both of us. Any advice to offer regarding relationship, job description, performance measurement or compensation arrangements? Thanks!

    Hello Ron,
I'd suggest that the marketing guy put his money where his mouth is:
Offer him 5% of all contracts brought into the firm as a result of his marketing,
to be paid AFTER you sign the deal and obtain a 10% (of the total fee) deposit, non-refundable.

Thanks, Rand. That matches up with advice I've gotten elsewhere. REG
