This message has been cross posted to the following Discussion Forums: International Committee and India-Practice and Member Networking Group .
On April 21st 2011 , Clark Manus FAIA , the president of AIA made his maiden visit to India. His visit was organized around the 1st AIA India Networking event . The event was very fruitful as the first steps were chalked to create the groundwork for the AIA India chapter.
An official memo on the networking event will be released in the future by the AIA. In the meantime, as you know the AIA India chapter networking received a big boost with the start of "AIA India-chapter" on the Knowledge communities of the AIA.org site.
With an aim to raise the quality of architecture services in India below are some of the items discussed at the meeting on 21st April 2011.
The discussion revolved around three crucial things:
A. Architecture Education in India
The review of Architecture Education in India and the licensure process of Indian Architects. How the AIA as a knowledge and professional body can impact the education of architects positively in India and bring value to the education of architects.
B. Practice of architecture in India
The review of architectural service delivery and practice in India and how the AIA can bring the existing knowledge base to India for the ultimate benefit of the profession
C. Role of AIA as a professional body and add value to its members in the region.
The synergies and challenges of working with the IIA (Indian Institute of Architects) to find a common ground on which the above positive changes can be impacted. The various tools and resources that AIA can provide its members in the region.
Using these three topics above, I invite you all to join and expand a conversation on the practice of architecture in India. Feel free to invite others to the network and add new topics.
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and opinion on the above topics,
Thanks and Regards,
