AIA International Program

The practice of architecture is global in its reach and industry members seek vital information that is pertinent to foreign markets, trade, procurement and practice issues, as well as the cross-cultural aspects of working abroad.

The International Practice Committee strives to promote excellence in international architectural practice; to serve as a resource to members by disseminating information in international markets, practice and design; to develop expertise in international policy and trade issues in order to advise AIA on international practice; to facilitate and enhance the international practices of the membership; and to foster relationships with architects abroad.

Announcements/Opportunities

INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION ON RURAL ARCHITECTURE IN KOREA

Sari-Myeon, Goesan-Gun is an ordinary village with the typical opportunities and problems of any Korean farming village. The village has declined from its position as a provincial center in recent years because of modernization.

The village has investigated the potential of a more advanced rural community as a way to combat the rapid decrease it has seen in its population. It is one of the future oriented villages which explore new possibilities of development through any means possible.

The village tries to communicate and to reproduce among the generations through reproducing the architectural assets which will contain the essence of the village’s past, present, and future.

In this context, the possibility of using the old warehouse of Nonghyup and the old children centers is well worth re-investigation.

The village has need for a space for discussion and the exchange of knowledge and ideas. There has, for a long time, been the need for programs that link the many generations within a “Senior Center-Junior Center.”

Furthermore, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Korea Rural Community Corporation are willing to ask for various ways to develop the village in a style that reflects the region’s characteristics, and utilizes the unattended architectural assets of rural areas. We expect that it will be another alternative which can assist in developing rural sustainably.

Dedalo Minosse International Prize

Dedalo Minosse International Prize for commissioning a building, is promoted by ALA - Assoarchitetti and Regione del Veneto.

The Prize, founded in 1997, is biennial and is currently in its ninth edition.

The Prize would boost the quality of architecture looking at final result, analysing and focusing on project and constructive plan process and giving a special attention to people who determine the success of the work: the architect and the client, supported by the project executors (the building firms) and the public administrations.
