AIA International Program

The practice of architecture is global in its reach and industry members seek vital information that is pertinent to foreign markets, trade, procurement and practice issues, as well as the cross-cultural aspects of working abroad.

The International Practice Committee strives to promote excellence in international architectural practice; to serve as a resource to members by disseminating information in international markets, practice and design; to develop expertise in international policy and trade issues in order to advise AIA on international practice; to facilitate and enhance the international practices of the membership; and to foster relationships with architects abroad.

The Holcim Awards is an international competition that recognizes innovative projects and future-oriented concepts on regional and global levels. A total of USD 2 million in prize money is awarded in each three-year cycle.

The competition seeks projects that demonstrate an ability to stretch conventional notions about sustainable building and also balance environmental, social and economic performance – while also exemplifying architectural excellence and a high degree of transferability.

2014 International Velux Award

The VELUX Group has launched the 2014 edition of its biennial Award that promotes and highlights the talent and capacity for innovation of students of architecture worldwide. The Award seeks to stimulate an open-minded and experimental approach that extends the boundaries of daylight in architecture including aesthetics, functionality and sustainability.

Call for Projects

UIA 2014 Durban invites all those involved in city-making to submit proposals for the UIA 2014 Parallel Project programme, to further conversations around pertinent built environment issues and to showcase South African talent and achievements to an international audience.
