Concrete poured in place: more than 2000 years of proven efficacy one sample of several ones is the Roman Coliseum.

Concrete used by the Romans was masonry and mortar using the natural volcanic ash called Puzzolanas.  In 1824 "Portland Cement" was patented; by 1854 the idea of increasing the bending strength of concrete stimulated the minds of several people.  By that time reinforcing elements such as iron bars and steel cables were used.  Several structures built in the United States in the late 1800s using reinforced Portland cement are still standing.

At the beginning, reinforced beams in concrete structures followed the shape of wood beams: a rectangular cross section with the vertical dimension greater than the horizontal.

Presently building with concrete can mitigate the lost of dwellings, assets, and life; by fire, tornados, and other natural disasters.   Think about!!!....
