Challenging the Status Quo
November 18-21, 2015 | Conrad Miami Hotel – Miami

Restorative Justice Visioning Event
Friday November 20, 2015, 9:45 am – 1:00 pm
Saturday November 21, 2015, 8:00 am – 12:30 pm

Our justice system is beginning to implement responses to social deviance that are more humane, efficient and effective.  Evaluating metrics of public safety, environmental impact, economic factors, preparedness for unplanned events and restorative justice principles can increase long-term success. The Restorative Justice Visioning Event will demonstrate how to pursue objectives that best support sustainable, resilient communities and maximize the potential of individuals.

The timing and location of the conference and Miami-Dade County’s exploration of a new Comprehensive Justice Center (CJC) provides a perfect opportunity to share the Visioning process through input from local stakeholders and national subject matter experts that defines a framework for a sustainable community and a restorative justice system.

The AAJ Sustainable Justice Committee is partnering with AIA Miami and Urban Impact Lab to seek input from organizations such as:  Miami-Dade County project administration; local government leadership; emergency response service agencies; environmental specialists; representatives from the USGBC, COTE, Sea Level Rise Task Force; community interest groups, national justice design experts and restorative justice advocates including our Friday breakfast plenary partner, DreamCorps.

The Visioning Event program is presented in two parts on Friday a third part on Saturday. Attendees are encouraged to sign up for all three individual sessions but are welcome to attend any or all sessions.

During these sessions we will:

  • Learn about initial ideas that are percolating for a new Miami-Dade County Comprehensive Justice Center that has inspired a Visioning approach to planning for the community.
  • Personally experience a public participatory process that unites stakeholders’ interests in envisioning a sustainable and resilient justice project.
  • Learn how to achieve bold project goals by defining the desired benefits and beneficiaries and identifying the actions necessary to achieve those goals.
  • Generate ideas for how to guide your own projects and community members toward long-term community goals by implementing an in-depth collaboration of various stakeholders and community leadership.
