Awards

The AIA-AAH Design Awards showcase the best of healthcare building design and healthcare design-oriented research.  The awards highlight the trends of healthcare facilities and the future direction of these facilities.  Projects should exhibit conceptual strength that solve aesthetic, civic, urban, and social concerns as well as the requisite functional and sustainability concerns of a hospital.  View the 2012 Award recipient project profiles.

AIA AAH Presidential Citations
In order to recognize the work of individuals and organizations who make exceptional contributions to the success of the AIA Academy of Architecture for Health (the Academy), the Board of Directors instituted in 2010 the Presidential Citation.

 

AIA AAH ICU Design Citation Award
Awarded to the entry that best resolves both functional and humanitarian issues in a unique and complimentary manner.

Herman Miller Intern Scholarship
Herman Miller Healthcare sponsored eight intern architects to attend HealthcareDesign12, the fall conference of the Center for Health Design/AIA Academy of Architecture for Health. The conference was held at the Phoenix Convention Center, Phoenix, AZ from November 3-6, 2012. Each selected intern architect received up to a $1,500 reimbursement to cover registration fees, air travel, and hotel room costs.  See past recipients.




AIA Arthur N. Tuttle Jr. Fellowship in Health Facility Planning and Design
This fellowship is open to undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate students. 



 

 

 


Martin H. Cohen Memorial Fund

In cooperation with Martin H. Cohen's family and friends, the Academy of Architecture for Health Foundation is seeking your support in establishing a special initiative within the AAHF Memorial Fund. The AAHF has established a named initiative on behalf of Marty, for the purpose of assisting students and other emerging professionals to attend national healthcare design-related meetings, or other programs that would reflect Marty’s longstanding interest in the future of the AIA Academy of Architecture for Health.

Announcements

AAH & ACHA Scholars Program for Intern Architects

The AIA Academy of Architecture for Health and the American College of Healthcare Architects will sponsor two intern architects to attend the 2013 Summer Leadership Summit. The summit will be held at the Intercontinental Chicago Magnificent Mile, July 12-14, 2013. Each selected intern architect will receive up to a $1300 reimbursement to cover air travel, hotel room costs, and incidentals. Registration for the summit and tour fees will be complimentary. Scholarship candidates should electronically submit application materials to aah@aia.org by June 14, 2013.

Academy Journal Call for Papers

You are invited to submit articles, innovative project case studies, completed research projects and monographs in the field of healthcare design. Articles should be timely; preview new trends; and address industry wide topics, issues of relevance, and emerging technology in healthcare.

All papers must be received by Friday, May 31, 2013.

BRIK and CHD Research Resources

Building Research Information Knowledgebase (BRIK)
A collaborative effort of the American Institute of Architects and the National Institute of Building Sciences, BRIK is an interactive portal offering online access to peer-reviewed research projects and case studies in all facets of building, from predesign, design, and construction through occupancy and reuse. Center for Health Design (CHD)
The Center for Health Design has, over the years, built up a large evidence-based design (EBD) reference library that links the physical design of healthcare settings with outcomes in acute care, residential care as well as ambulatory care settings. This library is the result of collaborating with scholars, design professionals and industry partners.

With support from The American Institute of Architects Academy of Architecture for Health, and The Academy of Architecture for Health Foundation, CHD is now able to offer an expanded reference library with over 2,500 articles. New easy-to-use features such as highlighting key points allow users the ability to easily and quickly review important concepts found in each article such as findings and design implications. Architecture for Health Visiting Lecture Series

Each semester the College of Architecture, the Center for Health Systems and Design and the Department of Architecture sponsor the Architecture-for-Health Visiting Lecture Series. The lectures address important focused topical themes related to major issues and trends in health facility design on both domestic and international levels. View the Spring 2013 poster.
