Bio
As an architect-developer, I focused on streamlining project delivery. That led me to specialize in modular construction, which - when combined with design-build or lean project delivery in today's terminology - offers the greatest opportunities to save time and therefore money.
As an educator, I'm focused on climate change mitigation and the tools, skills and concepts that recent graduates from professional schools will need to create environmentally and ecologically sensitive projects which are also beautiful, functional and beneficial for society. Therefore I continue as an adviser to thesis students.
Since 2008 I've led a campaign to influence the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) and its collateral organizations (AIA, AIAS, ACSA and NCARB) to challenge all US architecture schools to develop curricula which are aimed at making all their graduates proficient not only in designs which are beautiful, functional and socially contributive, but which also mitigate rather than aggravate climate change.
Since 2011 I've become involved with a growing non-profit organization by the title of "e" inc. which provides teachers for elementary schools and after-school programs in underserved neighborhoods of Boston and adjacent communities. Based on my experience as an architect-developer, I'm acting as their IDP coordinator (Integrated Project Delivery), advising the board and the executive director on all aspects of fundraising and negotiations so that the organization can move into their future headquarters in the Charlestown Navy Yard.
Also in 2011 I joined Sundolier® as a director. This company brings pure sunlight into the deep interior of buildings by tracking the sun with a device like a small satellite tracker.
My goal: to share my experiences of practicing personal independence and mindful living with fellow travelers of this precious planet. As van Gogh has been quoted: "in effect, living, loving and working are all one!"
