Bio

Matthew's experience has been forged by an interdisciplinary education and multifaceted career in pursuit of the capacity to approach problem-solving based not only on its depth, but also its breadth. Beginning with a foundation in economics and science, his architectural career has benefited from the analytical skill sets and creative problem-solving of both disciplines. As a practitioner, he began at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill's New York City office where evidence-based design was implemented into the process of developing high-performance buildings, both domestically and internationally. Today, he brings this experience along with his expertise in management and technology to the Austin-based firm of elmplus as its Principal. Driven by a leadership in Building Information Modeling (BIM) technologies, he has positioned the firm as a nimble, client-centric service based on more efficient team structures and smarter, more sustainable designs. As an academic, he spent 2 years at New York's Institute of Technology teaching courses on architecture and urbanism. Through these courses he focused on synthesizing architecture and urbanism by engaging the landscape, systems of infrastructure, and the ecology of cities. Today, his writing and research continues to engage the built environment, but specifically that of Austin, as catalogued through the website and blog of elmplus.
