HRC has announced the The Role of Green Preservation in Creating and Maintaining Sustainable Communities symposium for Regions 5 and 9 on the west coast. As noted in the announcement, this is the last in the series funded by EPA. It is too bad that this series is ending, and sadder still that the likelihood of a follow-up is very low, even next to none.
These symposia have been fantastic and directly engage historic preservation in the sustainable communities dialog on the federal level. The symposia series is largely the work of Yolanda Bouchee and her team at EPA.
I encourage HRC to recognize EPA, and Yolanda Bouchee specifically, for their efforts to draw attention to the role of historic preservation in sustainable communities initiatives. It is an important perspective for EPA. I also encourage HRC to see to it that EPA stays engaged on this important topic, something that is likely to require considerable efforts from HRC. ------------------------------------------- Carl Elefante FAIA Quinn Evans Architects- DC Takoma Park MD -------------------------------------------
